Life Lately

I’ll be honest…sometimes it is intimidating knowing what to share with all of you. Fashion and my style is what got me started on this crazy wonderful journey and career but it has evolved into so much more. The hard part is knowing what my readers will actually enjoy; how much about my life do you actually want to see and know and at what point is it just annoying? haha. What tips and tricks would benefit you the most? What inspiration do you need? What words of encouragement and affirmation? These are all things that I ask myself as a blogger. I am going to try harder to put myself out there even more and work to produce more interesting and helpful content. I want to start off by taking this opportunity to share some “behind the scenes” of our lives the last month…

This month I started this amazing bible study from Kristin Schmucker. As the cover states, it is a study on the book of Hosea. For those of you who don’t know, Hosea was a prophet of God. God commanded Hosea to marry a prostitute. As you might imagine, that was not “the norm” for anyone, let alone a prophet of God. No matter what the prostitute put Hosea through, God told him to love her unconditionally. The entire reason God asked Hosea to do this was to demonstrate God’s love for His people. When you understand the type of love demonstrated in the story, it really changes the way you view God and his love for us. I haven’t gotten very far into the study yet but I am enjoying what I have read! I definitely recommend this to anyone who is so inclined.

There was this super sweet moment the other morning after the kids woke up. They both just ran up to Sam and cuddled in his arms. It was one of those instances where such simple acts of love from your children just make your heart beam and smile. They adore their Daddy.

Many of you may not know this, but Sam and I are owners of a Rita’s Italian Ice franchise. If you have never had Rita’s…that needs to change. If you have, you probably love it as much as we do. We have had stands in the Pepsi Center for over a year now (the Pepsi Center is where the Nuggets and Avalanche play along with the rest of our pro sports teams. It is also the primary concert and event center in Denver). Just this last week we opened our first brick and mortar store in Highlands Ranch. It has been quite the process getting it open! Sam and his business partners have but in an insane amount of hours this last week making everything perfect; I’m talking up with the sunrise and home long after the sun has set. Now that we have officially opened things will slow down and bit and I’ll get my hubby back! If you’re local, definitely stop into the store and say hi! More information is on our Facebook page Rita’s of Denver – Highlands Ranch

My favorite flavors are Lemon, Wild Black Cherry, Cotton Candy, Swedish Fish and all of the All Natural Flavors!

I actually snapped this pic with my phone tonight. Judah and Aya were playing together so sweetly rolling the basketball back and forth. They squabble as most siblings do but they truly love each other and play together exceptionally well. While we weren’t planning on having babes so close together, it has been such an immense blessing. I am so thankful that they are close in age and will grow up as friends. God knows what he’s doing.

One of the perks of having Rita’s in the Pepsi Center? We’re sponsors of Denver’s sports teams like the Nuggets. I have met most of the Nugget’s players, the Avalanche players and the Rapids players. This picture is from an event a few weeks ago called the Mile High Dreams Gala. Its a charity event where you can try delicious food from all around the city in one location while hanging with the coaches and players. We were there with Rita’s of course and I made some new friends; say hello to JJ Hickson (left) and Will Barton (right). And yes, I may have accidentally touched Will Barton’s butt when I put my arm around him to take the picture. It was obviously a genuine accident, they guy is quite tall, I am not, and I underestimated how tall his toosh would be. I was slightly mortified.

Mr. Barton, if you are reading this, know that I am very sorry and have nothing but the utmost respect for you and your body 😉

If you have a daughter…GO BUY THIS BOOK. Its simple and cute and tells girls that they can be perfectly imperfect “tomboy” princess and that having perfect hair and makeup, a perfectly clean dress, and waiting for the perfect prince before living your life may not be perfection after all.

Also, it is Aya’s most favorite book and she asks to read it every day. The little girl in the story looks just like her and I think my perfect crazy haired princess identifies with her. Its adorable.

You guys. This is my bathroom. Let me just tell you right now…the black and white filter does WONDERS for this room. Now this is not our master bath, we don’t have a master bath, this is the upstairs bathroom that we share with the kids. The sink is to the left just behind the door. Yes it’s small. Sam and I barely fit in there at the same time. You see, building in master baths wasn’t a huge trend in the late 1800’s unless one had a nice chunk of change to pay for it (our house was built in 1896). The bathroom was updated some time in the 70’s and let me tell you…it’s time to update it again. We actually have already done a bit to it. We painted it…there were “questionable” stains on the walls. We replaced the toilet with a new one and we put in a new medicine cabinet because the old one was literally falling apart. You  might be able to see at the right corner of the tub where the tile is falling away from the wall; what you can’t see is the insane amount of tub and tile sealant I have put on that tile to hold it on there.

See I have this problem…I’m a visionary. I walk into a space and I immediately see its potential. I do this with people too. It does get me into trouble from time to time…like when I buy a 120 year old house. No, its not that bad and I am so glad we did it, but I sure can’t wait to gut this room and start from scratch!

The good news is that this will be the first full remodel project we tackle once we’re ready to spend the money. It will still be a little small after the remodel but it will be beautiful. I’m putting in a claw foot tub, tiling the walls with Victorian-inspired designs and hopefully uncovering and restoring the window that they drywalled over at some point in the last 100 years.

I can’t wait!

This is just and adorable picture of Judah and I (before his most recent haircut). This boy is so special. He is an excellent helper, a pro cuddler and has a larger vocabulary than most people my age (seriously he properly used the word “entangled” at Nordstrom the other day, I thought the sales lady was going to fall over). I can’t believe my baby will be 4 in April. It’s cliche’, but it really does go by entirely too fast.

Yesterday I took the with me to the mall. I needed a new bra for yoga and Aya needed new shoes. This is Aya playing on the seats in Free People. Her and Judah had so much fun trying to pick out clothes for me. They both love to shop. Going with Aya to pick out shoes for her is seriously one of my favorite things. This girl LOVES shoes. Shoes are her favorite thing aside from her family. You know what her next favorite thing is? Cats. You know what she shoes she found at Nordstrom? Ones with cats on them. They are silver, sparkly, jelly flats with rubber cats on the toes. They are epic and she is in love. You should follow me on Snapchat: talshooster and I’ll snap a video of them tomorrow.

That’s it for now!

I hope you’ve enjoyed a snippet of my month. There have been a lot of ups and downs the last few weeks and sharing all of them would take a much larger post. What I will say is that we’ve had some very trying moments but we’ve come out of them stronger and wiser. We’ve worked hard and I am so proud of everything we have accomplished.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I really want to encourage my readers to let me know what they want to see on here. I want to be an asset to you so never hesitate to ask me questions or request blog post topics; I will happily oblige if and when I can!

  • I love this post Tal. Sometimes I don’t know what to share either, but I think an occasional real life post just makes everything else seem like real life, between the perfectly planned posts. As long as you write about what makes YOU happy, that’s all that matters.
